The following verses capture infoirmation worth the next ten chapters:
SB 3.25.13: The Personality of Godhead answered: The yoga system which relates to the Lord and the individual soul, which is meant for the ultimate benefit of the living entity, and which causes detachment from all happiness and distress in the material world, is the highest yoga system.
sreyas and preyas - children like to play, but at a certain point they have to go to school , when one grows up one has to take care of adult needs - so you defer the immediate pleasure of gratification for some thing that is long term gratification.
Therefore preyas- short term effort, sreyas- long term achievement
better is sreyas uttama when one thinks aboutt heir long term spiritual good- the ultimate benefit thatis bhakti connecting with teh Supreme Person in Love.
niḥśreyasāya - Kapila Muni says this yoga system is meant for the ultimate benefit of the living entity, something that is not temporarya and something that is substantial - solid. The soul is eternal- therefore spiritual attachment and spiritual happiness is not based on matter it is on the platform of the soul- that is sreya- the long term benefit-. niḥśreyasāya - is when the soul connects with the Supreme- loving exchange on the spiritual platform - then i can use this temporaray body in an ultimately substantial way- making some offering of service.
Therefore he is speaking of this yoga process- that is very ancient and is of the real interest of the soul- when that is attained then the by product is detachment from all that is temporary - upa ratih - when there is great feeling of attachment - this is when there is complete detachment- when the heart is feeling so full when you are absorbed in the loving reln with the Supreme Soul - you become indifferent to happiness and distress of this world.
SP gives eg- when you are tired you are abt to sleep but when your very good friend comes to see you after a lomng time - all your tiredness goes away and you are very enlivened in that association - when the connection with Krishna is again established one becomes extremely enlivened everything else pales in comparision with that
SB 3.25.14: O most pious mother, I shall now explain unto you the ancient yoga system, which I explained formerly to the great sages. It is serviceable and practical in every way.
Prev taught it to Lord Brahma - Sankhya yoga is so sublime and powerful even Brahma and Bhrgu Muni the great sage of sages wnated to learn it. VCT says- Narada Muni heard Sankhya philosphy from Kapila Deva. As elevated these personalities are - here is Devahuti - who is not a great sage , philosopher, etc but he will explain it to her- thus scholarship is not what makes it accessible- the qualification is to hear it from the right source. It is an eternal principle of the soul's connection with the Supreme Lord- Although He is Lord Kapila Deva He is not repeating something - He is not creating something new. Even Krishna refers to the authority of the Vedas.
When we have a super excellent process in the Vedas we do not need to concot a new system.
SB 3.25.15: The stage in which the consciousness of the living entity is attracted by the three modes of material nature is called conditional life. But when that same consciousness is attached to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, one is situated in the consciousness of liberation.
Sankhya philosphy there are 24 elements - when the supreme lord is Xforming the unmanifest to teh manifest he is doing so by glancing over Pradhana- the sum total of material elemenst- by His glance the living entities are injected in the pradhan- carried b y His glance and the time energy - kala sakti is also carried by His glance- the glance agitates pradan different elemenst start separating
1st element - false ego , which mixes with modes of nature. false ego+goodness= mind, false ego+passion- , false ego+ignorance - 5 senses, knowledge acquiring senses, +5 , +
..... chetana - contaminated consciousness - consciousness is pure like rain- but after it comes in contact with earth it becomes muddy - in beginning state of creation pure consciousness exists- but when it is attracted by modes of material nature it becomes contaminated but same consciousness is attracted to SPg it becomes clear again.
Devahuti is saying I am in this complex situation thing- mind is reeling agitated- lifetime after lifetime- i want relief I want your shelter - thus attachment to Supreme is the yoga of liberation
SB 3.25.16: When one is completely cleansed of the impurities of lust and greed produced from the false identification of the body as "I" and bodily possessions as "mine," one's mind becomes purified. In that pure state he transcends the stage of so-called material happiness and distress.
Mind is behind senses and behind the mind is the consciousness?
Where does our consciousness go- process is chanting but where does our consciousnesses go while making the sound vibration -the practice is to bring the mind back to the sound of teh Holy NAme because the sound of the Holy Name is non-different from Krishna - because the Xcendental absolute nature of Krishna.
The process is simple - but we are very covered - our consciousness is very thick and dense
I and mine
misconception of I as teh body is false ego- what is mine is produced from this body - so if I work the fruits of the wokr are mine and I am entitled to enjoy what is mine.
When the consicousnes is absorbed one is not affect by the dualities.
From SP's purport:
In the beginning Lord Kapila has said that perfect yoga enables one to transcend the platform of material distress and happiness. How this can be done is explained here: one has to purify his mind and consciousness. This can be done by the bhakti-yoga system. As explained in the Nārada-pañcarātra, one's mind and senses should be purified (tat-paratvena nirmalam). One's senses must be engaged in devotional service to the Lord. That is the process.
Everyone of us can do it - the process is very powerful and effective.
SB 3.25.17: At that time the soul can see himself to be transcendental to material existence and always self-effulgent, never fragmented, although very minute in size.
As Krishna says -in 2nd chapter the qualities of the soul- the soul cannot be cut, dried , made wet, etc but the soul is not material and thus cannot be affected by anything material - cannot break into pieces the soul - the sloul can be covered by material elements and forgetful of its reln- but by the process of yoga when the mind and senses become cleansed by process of KC, at that time the soul can see itself and Krishna and the tiny serves the great
The tiny soul is nirantaram- not different in quality although very tiny in quantity
When the posn of linking with the Supreem is pure, mind and consciousness is pourified one is factually situated in one's identoity as teh servant of Lord and its a very jubilant position
