The Lord's Darshan makes one aloof from sex attraction and one desires to see nothing else but the Lord

From the purport to SB 3.28.32:

A yogī should similarly meditate on the most benevolent smile of Lord Śrī Hari, a smile which, for all those who bow to Him, dries away the ocean of tears caused by intense grief. The yogī should also meditate on the Lord’s arched eyebrows, which are manifested by His internal potency in order to charm the sex-god for the good of the sages.

Purport:
It is stated in this verse that the charming eyebrows of the Lord are so fascinating that they cause one to forget the charms of sense attraction. The conditioned souls are shackled to material existence because they are captivated by the charms of sense gratification, especially sex life. The sex-god is called Makara-dhvaja. The charming brows of the Supreme Personality of Godhead protect the sages and devotees from being charmed by material lust and sex attraction. Yāmunācārya, a great ācārya, said that ever since he had seen the charming pastimes of the Lord, the charms of sex life had become abominable for him, and the mere thought of sex enjoyment would cause him to spit and turn his face. Thus if anyone wants to be aloof from sex attraction, he must see the charming smile and fascinating eyebrows of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

3.28.33
With devotion steeped in love and affection, the yogī should meditate within the core of his heart upon the laughter of Lord Viṣṇu. The laughter of Viṣṇu is so captivating that it can be easily meditated upon. When the Supreme Lord is laughing, one can see His small teeth, which resemble jasmine buds rendered rosy by the splendor of His lips. Once devoting his mind to this, the yogī should no longer desire to see anything else.

Purport:
If the yogī is able to place the beautiful face of the Lord in the core of his heart, he will be completely satisfied. In other words, when one is absorbed in seeing the beauty of the Lord within himself, the material attraction can no longer disturb him.

What is the meaning of taking shelter of the Lord's Lotus Feet?

I heard this in a class by HG Vraja bihari Prabhu sometime in 2011 maybe:

What is the meaning of taking shelter of the Lord's Lotus Feet?

  • Physical Darshan
  • Humility, want to serve Krsna, become a servant of Krsna and His devotees. Take a humble position. Follow instructions
What is the qualification to take darshan of His Lotus Feet?
  • Attachment to hearing and Chanting about Krsna
  • Non enviousness
  • Hold on to the Holy Name - Kaliya was envious but by allowing Krsna to dance on his head all his dirty poison came out. Similarly if we hold on to the Lord;s Holy Name we will be cured of our envy.
How to meditate on Krsna's Lotus Feet?
  • Take Darshan step by step from His Lotus Feet progressively upwards finally to His face.
  • Follow the instructions of the spiritual master.

Meditation on the Lord's Lotus Feet

From 3.28.1:
The devotee should first concentrate his mind on the Lord’s lotus feet, which are adorned with the marks of a thunderbolt, a goad, a banner and a lotus. The splendor of their beautiful ruby nails resembles the orb of the moon and dispels the thick gloom of one’s heart.

From the purport to the verse : 3.28.22

The blessed Lord Śiva becomes all the more blessed by bearing on his head the holy waters of the Ganges, which has its source in the water that washed the Lord’s lotus feet. The Lord’s feet act like thunderbolts hurled to shatter the mountain of sin stored in the mind of the meditating devotee. One should therefore meditate on the lotus feet of the Lord for a long time.

Purport:
Another significant point of this verse is that the mind of the conditioned soul, on account of its association with the material energy from time immemorial, contains heaps of dirt in the form of desires to lord it over material nature. This dirt is like a mountain, but a mountain can be shattered when hit by a thunderbolt. Meditating on the lotus feet of the Lord acts like a thunderbolt on the mountain of dirt in the mind of the yogī. If a yogī wants to shatter the mountain of dirt in his mind, he should concentrate on the lotus feet of the Lord and not imagine something void or impersonal. Because the dirt has accumulated like a solid mountain, one must meditate on the lotus feet of the Lord for quite a long time. For one who is accustomed to thinking of the lotus feet of the Lord constantly, however, it is a different matter. The devotees are so fixed on the lotus feet of the Lord that they do not think of anything else. Those who practice the yoga system must meditate on the lotus feet of the Lord for a long time after following the regulative principles and thereby controlling the senses.

Prayers by Queen Kunti 1.8.20 Humility

1.8.20

You Yourself descend to propagate the transcendental science of devotional service unto the hearts of the advanced transcendentalists and mental speculators, who are purified by being able to discriminate between matter and spirit. How, then, can we women know You perfectly?

Kunti Devi here says that "You come to further enlighten those who are already advanced, those who are able to distinguish between matter and spirit- But what about people like me?How will we who are not great philosophers know You"-

In previous verses she has already mentioned that in spite of the Lord being situated inside and outside we cannot perceive Him, we cannot perceive Him through our senses and inspite of the Lord providing us with so many necessities, always being our benefactor and the Lord Himself giving us so many ways of seeing Him we fail to accept the Lord's presence. Then what is the hope for a mere women?

In this way Kunti Devi expresses herself and teaches us the mood in which we must approach the Lord.

Kunti Devi not an ordinary woman
Kunti Devi was not an ordinary woman.- she was able to see the Lord not just as her nephew but she knew His position as the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
  • "But Kuntidevi, although she is in such exalted position, practically on the level of Yasodamayi, such a great devotee... So she is so submissive that "Krsna, You are meant for the paramahamsas, and what we can see You? We are women."
  • "But she could perceive the Lord "There in the previous verse she said, alaksyam sarva-bhutanam antar bahir avasthitam: "You are not seen by ordinary men, although You are inside and outside." In another verse also, na laksyase mudha-drsa: "Fools and rascals cannot see You." That means Kunti sees Him. Unless she sees Krsna as He is, how she can say, mudha-drsa na laksyase? And (s)he says, prakrteh param: "You are transcendental to this material creation."
  • Although she understands everything, she still takes the position of an ordinary woman and says, "How can I understand You?" This is humility.

How can one see the Lord??
In the previous post we read that SP mentions we must take to the process of hearing srvataha sva kathah krsna, because of which we will have the vision to see the Lord. Here we learn that we need to be humble as well to enhance our vision of the Lord else we will be caught up in the temporary- material strength, power, influence, beauty, knowledge, etc.
By hearing, all the undesirable things from our hearts will be cleansed personally by the Lord (amalatmana- no lust and greed) and gradually we will become qualified to see the Lord.
"One must feel humility. Material Strength, beauty, intelligence and assorted other good qualities remain insufficient assets when one tries to know the Lord.Srila Prabhupada is encouraging in his purport to text 20: "The Lord is so kind that He does not show special favor only to one who is a great philosopher. He knows the sincerity of purpose."" - From Unveiling His Lotus Feet- Page 139

From another lecture of Srila Prabhupada: "So following her footsteps, any woman can also understand Krsna. Krsna is ready to be understood by anyone. Mam hi partha vyapasritya ye 'pi syuh... [Bg. 9.32]. Simply we have to follow the path how to appreciate Krsna, how to understand Krsna, how to see Krsna, how to talk with Him, how to walk with Him. These things are there. That is called bhakti-yoga. Where you learn this science of bhakti-yoga -- that we have mentioned, Nectar of Devotion, the perfect science of bhakti-yoga. So if one is interested in seeing Krsna, then there is no hindrance, there is no block. Anyone. Striyo vaisyas tatha sudras te 'pi yanti param gatim."

Raising oneself from the Material Conception to the Spiritual Conception

We discussed verses 6.9.28- 6.9.35.The Demigods were in fear of Vrtrasura who had just appeared as a ghastly demon. Thus they had offered prayers to the Supreme Lord for protection.
As we discussed earlier the demigods were Sakama Bhaktas and themselves affected by the 3 modes of material nature.
Also the quality of their prayers and glorification was up to their level of realization through the verses until 6.9.27.

However once the Supreme Lord appeared the prayers of the demigods changed from asking for protection and glorifying the Lord's qualities as the Creator , Controller, etc to glorifying the Lord's personal qualities and glorifying the Lord's devotees along with the process of devotional service. In spite of being in such a great danger the demigods did not ask for protection from the Lord after He appeared before them.

Take Home lessons:

The Deity Form
The Demigods were raised from a material conception (where they were in fear and anxiety) to a spiritual conception (where the glorified the Lord and His devotees and understood their own minuteness) just by the Darshan of the Lord.

When one is in a material conception of life one is always anxious and overcome by fear. That blocks their ability to offer themselves completely in the service of the Lord and His devotees. The darshan of the Lord raises one from the Material Conception of life to the Spiritual Conception in which one is able to properly offer service to the Lord.
Nityam Bhagavat Sevaya

The Lord's darshan may not be available to us in the same way as it was available to the Demigods. However in Kali Yuga the Lord has mercifully extended His darshan in the form of :

Krsna Katha
  1. Srimad Bhagavatam
  2. His Deity Form
  3. The Holy Name
  4. The Holy Name
  5. Krsna Katha: by discussing the Lord's Pastimes one gets the same benefit as being in the pastime.

We must vigorously take darshan of the Lord through the above mentioned mediums through rigid practice to gradually raise ourselves to the Spiritual conception where our service will be pure, unmotivated and uninterrupted.

    Taking Responsibility

After Jarasandha was killed , Lord Krishna released the 20,800 kings held captive by Jarasandha. The kings recd the Lord's darshan and also spoke words of glorification to Him. They also offer prayers to the Lord and one of them is:

SB 10.73.9: O master, Madhusūdana, we do not blame this King of Magadha, since it is actually by Your mercy that kings fall from their royal position, O almighty Lord.

The kings had been imprisoned for many many years by Jarasandha. They had suffered a lot during their time of imprisonment and had also suffered the pain of being away from their kingdoms and their loved ones.
Inspite of this and the various atrocities meted out by Jarasandha the kings say in the above verse that they do not blame the King of Magadha for their situation and they accept it as the Lord's mercy.

    From the purport: "
It is significant that upon seeing Lord Kṛṣṇa and thus becoming purified of their sins, the kings did not feel any mundane hatred or bitterness toward Jarāsandha, who had imprisoned them. Simply by seeing Lord Kṛṣṇa, the kings came to the position of Kṛṣṇa consciousness and spoke these verses, which show deep spiritual wisdom.
    "
When we are in a difficult situation especially when it involves some people "causing harm" to us - it is extremely difficult to accept the difficulty as the Lord's mercy. I usually carry anger towards the persons involved in the situation and consider them to be the reasons for my pain and difficulty.

However, it is the Lord's mercy because through that difficulty Krishna is taking away from me all that I am attached to and all that is blocking me from His service. I must be thankful to Him as His mercy in this form is easing out my forward march towards Krishna's lotus feet.
Instead of thinking like that I am caught into thinking about how I have been harmed by certain people and how I want them to understand the pain I went through because of their actions.

    Taking responsibility is liberating
Because of such a thought process I am carrying a lot of baggage of expectations towards those persons and am constantly feeling like a victim - remembering all the pain and all the time fearing their next action towards me.Such a thought process is not liberating or uplifting. It is rooting me down to material conceptions- it does not help me grow.
On the other hand if I accept the situation as a result of my own actions and as a part of the Lord's divine plan to lead me in the positive direction it will make me feel very light, happy and positive. I can at the same time still be watchful of the same people and their harm causing potential but not bog myself down with all the fear and the anger.

    Takes Humility
It will take some humility on my part to accept everything as a result of my actions and also take responsibility for my feelings. Humility is difficult because it forces me to hold myself accountable for the situation. Blaming is easy - when I do that I don't have to hold myself responsible.

In my situation, everything that is happening is for my benefit- the difficult situations helped me become a stronger person- it made me realize that Krishna is our only shelter, that we cannot change Krishna's plan- that Krishna is more powerful than us. It also helped me understand people and the world more closely- it helped me see how weak people are and how they take shelter of unjust means to control someone in order to hide their own weaknesses.

Oh Lord Krishna please help me understand this in this way- Please help me see everything in my life as Your mercy - Please remove this covering , please help me overcome this thought process so that I can live a life of freedom in devotional service to You- please help me Krishna so that I can offer myself fully to You.
Please help this servant of Yours so that she can overcome her anarthas to serve you completely.

Result of touching the Supreme Lord

    SB 8.4.6:
    gajendro bhagavat-sparśād
    vimukto 'jñāna-bandhanāt
    prāpto bhagavato rūpaḿ
    pīta-vāsāś catur-bhujaḥ

Because Gajendra, King of the elephants, had been touched directly by the hands of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, he was immediately freed of all material ignorance and bondage. Thus he received the salvation of sārūpya-mukti, in which he achieved the same bodily features as the Lord, being dressed in yellow garments and possessing four hands.

Purport: If one is favored by the Supreme Personality of Godhead by having his gross body touched by the Lord, his body turns into a spiritual body, and he can go back home, back to Godhead. Gajendra assumed a spiritual body when his body was touched by the Lord. Similarly, Dhruva Mahārāja assumed his spiritual body in this way. Arcanā-paddhati, daily worship of the Deity, provides an opportunity to touch the body of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and thus it enables one to be fortunate enough to get a spiritual body and go back to Godhead. Not only by touching the body of the Supreme Lord, but simply by hearing about His pastimes, chanting His glories, touching His feet and offering worship — in other words, by serving the Lord somehow or other — one is purified of material contamination. This is the result of touching the Supreme Lord. One who is a pure devotee (anyābhilāṣitā-śūnyam [Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu 1.1.11]), who acts according to the śāstra and the words of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, certainly becomes purified. Like Gajendra, he assumes a spiritual body and returns home, back to Godhead.

Lord's darshan removes all material contaminations

6.16.31 Text:As soon as Mahārāja Citraketu saw the Supreme Lord, he was cleansed of all material contamination and situated in his original Kṛṣṇa consciousness, being completely purified. He became silent and grave, and because of love for the Lord, tears fell from his eyes, and his hairs stood on end. With great devotion and love, he offered his respectful obeisances unto the original Personality of Godhead.

6.16.31 Purport:The word tad-darśana-dhvasta-samasta-kilbiṣaḥ is very important in this verse. If one regularly sees the Supreme Personality of Godhead in the temple, one will gradually be disinfected of all material desires simply by visiting the temple and seeing the Deity. When one is freed from all the results of sinful activities, one will be purified, and with a healthy mind, completely cleansed, he will increasingly make progress in Kṛṣṇa consciousness.

    6.16.44 Text:
My Lord, it is not impossible for one to be immediately freed from all material contamination by seeing You. Not to speak of seeing You personally, merely by hearing the holy name of Your Lordship only once, even caṇḍālas, men of the lowest class, are freed from all material contamination. Under the circumstances, who will not be freed from material contamination simply by seeing You?
6.16.45 Text:Therefore, my dear Lord, simply seeing You has now wiped away all the contamination of sinful activities and their results of material attachment and lusty desires, which always filled my mind and the core of my heart. Whatever is predicted by the great sage Nārada Muni cannot be otherwise. In other words, I have obtained Your audience as a result of being trained by Nārada Muni.
6.16.45 Purport excerpt : As soon as one sees the Supreme Personality of Godhead, all the sinful reactions in the core of one's heart are certainly vanquished.
